LOVE YOUR HEART: HOW IS A STRESS TEST PERFORMED?

You will be asked to sign a consent form.

Your chest may be shaved.

Electrodes are placed on the chest. Cables connect these electrodes to the ECG machine.

A resting ECG is taken.

You are made to walk on a treadmill. The speed and inclination of the treadmill increase every few minutes in order to increase the work load on your heart in a controlled manner.

The doctor will constantly monitor your blood pressure, pulse and ECG.

If you experience chest pain, giddiness, shortness of breath or leg cramps, tell the doctor. He might decide to stop the test.

The test stopped when you achieve your target heart rare, or if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

The test takes about half an hour. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the test.
